If you’re looking for a quick and easy outing in Longmont, then hiking at Golden Ponds is always a good choice. Located along the St. Vrain Greenway in the heart of the city, the park is still large enough to compare to many of the other local open spaces in the county.
Golden Ponds is comprised of several bodies of water, with the St. Vrain river cutting through the middle of the area. The most easily accessible bridge over the river overlooks a waterfall where there is plenty of shaded space to stop and enjoy view. And while there are many wide concrete and gravel paths to enjoy, my favorite locations are the smaller dirt trails that run along the river.
While there isn’t nearly as much elevation change as the trails in nearby Lyons, hiking at Golden Ponds is a great option when you’re short on time but still want to enjoy a variety of scenic views.
