If you’re near Lyons, then hiking the Bitterbrush Trail at Hall Ranch should be at the top of your list. With immediate views (such as the photo above) and a wide variety of plant and animal life along the way, there are many opportunities for photography – or for just plain enjoying the view.

Speaking of plant life, one of my favorite spots to step off the trail early on to take some snaps is this large rock slab with cacti growing in and around it. And although this trail is one of the more well-trafficked ones in the area, you might be able to find wildlife like this rabbit (as seen below) if you’re out early enough.

While the Bitterbrush Trail is an extensive trail (eventually meeting up with the Antelope Trail and the Nelson Loop), it’s still a good choice if you’re looking for a shorter hike and just plan on doubling-back. The views hiking the Bitterbrush Trail on the return trip are just as nice, as seen below.
